The Inner Lens
Photovoice Project
Through Their Lens: Real Stories, Real Growth
The Inner Lens Photovoice Project is a six-week creative journey designed for inner-city youth ages 13–19, using smartphone photography as a powerful tool for self-expression, reflection, and community connection. Through themed sessions grounded in Scripture, participants explore their thoughts, emotions, and daily experiences—capturing real-life moments and engaging in group dialogue, spiritual reflection, and skill-building activities. Each Saturday gathering blends photovoice methodology with outdoor adventures, emotional wellness discussions, and playful connection, creating a safe space for youth to be seen, heard, and supported.
This pilot round of the program has successfully engaged a diverse group of 12 youth, who have shown consistent participation, creativity, and insight throughout the journey. The project has not only fostered personal growth and resilience among the youth but also strengthened relationships with local churches, community members, and partner organizations. The program will culminate in a public photo gallery, allowing the youth to share their unique perspectives and stories with family, friends, and the wider community.
